HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Shungite is an ancient mineral estimated to be over 2 billion years old, mainly found in the Karelia region of Russia, particularly near the village of Shunga, which is where its English name comes from. The history of Shungite goes back to the 17th century when locals used it to purify water. It’s said that during the time of Peter the Great, Shungite was even used to purify water for the Russian military. In modern times, science has shown that Shungite contains fullerenes, which have the ability to absorb harmful substances in water, such as heavy metals, pesticides, bacteria, and organic pollutants.

In crystal healing, Shungite is seen as a stone with cleansing, grounding, and protective energy. It is believed to filter out energetic “impurities,” especially those caused by electromagnetic fields from electronic devices, reducing their impact on the body.

  • CLEANSING TIPS

    Step 1: Cleanse with Running Water
    Hold Shungite under gentle running water. Allow the water to flow for a few minutes. Visualizing the washing away of negative energies.

    Step 2: Sunlight Cleansing / Palo Santo or Sage Smoke Cleansing
    Place Shungite in direct sunlight for several hours to recharge and restore its natural energy and vibrational properties.

    When burning sage or Palo Santo, pass the crystal through the smoke. Ensure that the smoke touches all surfaces. Visualize positive energy entering the crystal with the smoke, while negative energy is leaving the crystal with the smoke.

    Frequency: Once a month or after spiritual practices.
