HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Epidote is a silicate mineral that belongs to the silicate mineral family. Its English name, "Epidote," comes from the Greek word "epidosis," meaning "increase," due to its angled crystal formations that often grow out from surrounding minerals, resembling plant-like growth with its deep green color.

Epidote typically forms under conditions of high temperature and pressure, requiring calcium-rich silicate rocks to undergo metamorphism, making its formation less common and therefore relatively rare and valuable. In the Höllgraben mine in Switzerland, one of Epidote's notable sources, miners even hold small celebrations when high-quality Epidote is discovered. Over time, encountering Epidote in the local culture has evolved into a symbol of good fortune.
