Ocean Jasper is a unique type of jasper known for its rich colors and patterns, especially its wave-like and concentric circle designs. Ocean Jasper is primarily found in remote coastal areas of northwestern Madagascar, formed by volcanic activity. It is thought to have crystallized from a mix of oceanic plant and animal remains, along with various marine sediments, which explains its diverse color palette and connection to the power of the ocean.

Ocean Jasper gained recognition later in the mineral world, being introduced to the international market by mineral collector Paul Obenich in the late 1990s. Prior to this, Ocean Jasper was known only in Malagasy culture. Mining is limited because Ocean Jasper is located along the coast and can only be collected at low tide, leading to its relatively low supply. Rare colors, such as pink and light blue, are especially prized.

In Malagasy culture, Ocean Jasper is believed to be a gift from the ocean. Local fishermen and villagers saw this oceanic crystal as a talisman bestowed by the sea gods, protecting them from maritime disasters. They would carry small pieces of Ocean Jasper with them and use it in rituals to pray for safety and abundance.
